FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Summit City continues to move to the forefront in its efforts to build awareness and raise money for the fight against prostate cancer. The Second Annual Great Prostate Cancer Challenge in Fort Wayne will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. Northeast Indiana Urology is again hosting this 5K run/walk to support ZERO, a national campaign to reduce deaths from prostate cancer to zero. 34 communities across the country are taking part in the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge this year.
All funds raised through the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge go to ZERO to be used for research, free prostate cancer screenings and advocacy. More than half of the proceeds from the Fort Wayne run/walk will remain in the community. Some of the proceeds from last year’s event were just used to fund a day long prostate cancer screening at Walgreens, Village at Coventry store, using the ZERO mobile screening bus. Some 80 men had a free digital rectal exam and PSA test to screen for prostate cancer.
