Area Vets Dumped on Again
For years local Veterans campaigned to save local in-patient care. Finally, we triumphed with a signed promise from the VA Secretary that we would receive a new VA Hospital that included in-patient, emergency and greatly expanded outpatient care including orthopedics and others commonly referred to other VA facilities. Lots of money (not released but amount should be demanded, as well as preliminary drawings of which I saw on an office desk) was spent. Our congressman and senators should be demanded to know the cost and see the drawings.
I resigned. I am sorry for my sins. But now I have no power to do anything about this. Honestly, I have heard nothing but excuses, press releases, and avoidance from our legislators as the VA first canceled the new hospital and then continued to stonewall, and gradually wind down this facility (which continues to deteriorate).
There are some side issues which I am trying to follow up on.
Here is a political warning. This is an issue made for Joe Donnelly to come up to FW and announce that working with the President, they have decided to fix this problem and deliver on the promise.
I am not saying it will happen. If it does, the Republicans have no one but themselves to blame. It would be tragic if control of the Senate came down to the fact that the Indiana reps didn't take care of their vets. At least the vets would finally be served.
Probably none of this will happen and the Fort Wayne VA will continue to trickle away. Fort Wayne, including its Mayor and its media, far too often let this happen when others fight harder. Sorry. Truth is the truth.
