Indiana Voters Can Buy Alcohol After Voting This Year
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - This Election Day marks the first presidential election year in several decades where Indiana voters can buy alcohol after casting their votes.
State lawmakers passed a law in March 2010 that repealed a ban on alcohol sales while polls are open on Election Day. The law banning those sales had been on the books since Prohibition.
John Livengood is president of associations representing Indiana's restaurants, hotels and liquor stores. He tells The Indianapolis Star that many Indiana residents still don't realize that they can head to their local pub or liquor store after voting Tuesday.
Only Kentucky and South Carolina still ban alcohol sales on Election Day.
Livengood says that in the elections since the law took effect, there haven't been any alcohol-related problems at polling places.
