Police around the Hoosier state are against marijuana legalization...

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Many local law enforcement officials around Indiana say they disagree with the state police superintendent's opinion that marijuana should be legalized and taxed.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor Michael Dvorak tells the South Bend Tribune that few people convicted of having small amounts of marijuana are sent to prison and those arguing legalization would ease spending on prisons are wrong.

Vigo County Drug Task Detective Denzil Lewis tells WTHI-TV he believes marijuana legalization would lead to more people growing and selling the drug.

A spokeswoman for Republican Gov.-elect Mike Pence says he opposes the decriminalization of marijuana.

A Republican state senator plans to propose making possession of small amounts of marijuana an infraction carrying a fine rather than a criminal misdemeanor.
