Retired Catholic Bishop Diagnosed With Cancer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) _ The retired bishop of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese says he's been diagnosed with cancer in his lungs and brain.

Eighty-year-old Bishop Emeritus John D'Arcy (DAHR'-see) says he was diagnosed after he began not feeling well while in the Boston area for Christmas visiting family.

D'Arcy says in a statement that he'll begin radiation treatments within days in Massachusetts and hopes on returning to Fort Wayne within a few weeks.

This is D'Arcy's second bout with cancer after he was treated for prostate cancer in 2011.

D'Arcy retired in 2010 after 24 years leading the diocese when he was succeeded by Bishop Kevin Rhoades. D'Arcy continues serving as a chaplain at Bishop Luers High School and other church activities.
