Fort Wayne offers neutering for a nickel for cats...

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) _ Indiana's second biggest city is offering a one-day neutering program aimed at cutting down on stray cats.

Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control will hold a Feb. 9 event it calls ``Neuter for a Nickel.'' People who live in six zip codes in the northeastern Indiana city are eligible to take part. Households in those zip codes can schedule surgeries for up to seven male cats per household for 5 cents per cat.

The city says more than 350 cats per area were turned into its shelter last year.  Organizers say the event runs on donations, so they need to focus assistance to the areas that had the most cats turned in.
