Allen County health officials say the current flu outbreak is causing a push for preventative measures. To help curb the spread, they're encouraging people to get the vaccine and to stay home if they are experiencing any flu-like symptoms.

This is shaping up to be one of the earliest flu seasons in years. Flu season usually peaks in February, but high flu rates have been reported across the country. So far, there have been 15 influenza-related deaths in Indiana, including two in Allen County.

Flu vaccines are offered in many locations, including doctor’s offices, pharmacies, urgent care clinics, and the local health department. There may be some locations that are temporarily low on vaccine supplies given the current demand and high level of activity.

We called some local pharmacies to see if they're running low on flu shots, and about 70% are currently out of supplies but they say more should be arriving next week. If you want the vaccine right now, the CVS on Carroll Road or the one on Calhoun have them in stock.
