Police Identify Semi Driver Involved In US 30 & Doyle Road Crash

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Police identify the driver of the semi truck that struck and killed two people last Tuesday morning along US 30 at Doyle Road.
Suzanne K. Stephenson, 65, of Monroveville, and Sandra Dealey, 43, of Convoy, Ohio, both died of blunt force trauma to the head in the crash, according to the Allen County coroner's office.
Stephenson and Dealey were driving two separate cars in the six-vehicle crash. Both women were wearing seatbelts, the coroner's office says.
New Haven police confirm Wednesday that there were no skid marks from the semi-truck, driven by 50-year old Scott Saunders, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and that the semi did not slow down before the crash. At this time, police did not say why the semi did not slow down.
Police say traffic lights in the westbound lanes of US 30 had just changed to green prior to the crash; traffic was just beginning to move as the semi approached the intersection.
As the investigation continues, New Haven police say no decision has been made on potential charges against Saunders.
"The main focus right now is trying to reconstruct the accident," New Haven police officer Scott Adam says. "It helps out having witnesses who remain on the scene."
Another truck driver, John Fauzy, witnessed the wreck, and described the carnage.
"I wish I could have got them out of there,” Fauzy says. "The flames just engulfed it; and there was just nothing anybody could do."
That stretch of US 30 was closed down for hours while crews cleaned up the crash. Westbound lanes reopened Tuesday night.
