Burglar Interrupted by Homeowner and Caught by Deputies

On Thursday, just after 11:30 a.m. deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office were called to check out some suspicious activity that had occurred at a Lake James home.

Officers arrived on the scene and found evidence that suggested Dustin Cook, entered the home, but then possibly was startled by the homeowner returning, causing him to take off running barefoot.

Through the investigation, deputies located and began speaking with Cook. It was discovered that nothing was taken from the home, but he was busted for residential entry.

Cook was also arrested for child neglect, as he was caring for a 2-year-old child at the time and had left the child alone while he went to burglarize the home.
