ANGOLA, Ind. (WOWO):  Steuben County Commissioners are expected vote Monday on a proposal to transfer administration of the county 911 dispatch center to the Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Tim Troyer says it's an issue of public safety and basic priorities. He says there's critical shortage of dispatchers and he's had to assign deputies to take spots in the center to maintain proper coverage.

Monday's meeting is an emergency session arranged after the sheriff and commissioners met last week.  If action isn't taken, Troyer says there will be just two full-time dispatchers in a few weeks.

Steuben's dispatch center includes dozens of Steuben County law enforcement, fire and EMS units.

The commissioner's meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. in the Community Center on South Wayne Street in Angola.
