INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): With heavy flooding throughout the area, conservation offers had their hands full Friday. According to a report from the Indiana DNR, agents assisted in flood evacuations, stranded vehicles - including a stranded EMS. They also put out a fire.

From a DNR press release:

Officers involved could not seem to get a moment’s rest, going straight from one call to another. The first call came in for the evacuation of the Greenlawn Trailer Park in Blackford County, where Conservation Officers Cpl. Josh Kilgore and Cpl. John Neargardner assisted the Hartford City Fire Department with evacuations due to rising flood waters.

Officers Kilgore and Neargardner were called away from the evacuation of the trailer park to respond to a structure fire on SR 3, north of SR 18. Flood waters had prevented fire fighters from reaching the fire by land, so the officers transported fire fighters and hoses to the fire. The fire department then fought the fire from the DNR boat.

Meanwhile, in another part of Blackford County, Conservation Officer Lt. Andy Wuestefeld and ISP F/Sgt. Michael Nichols were busy evacuating a residence near County Road 300 S and Willman Rd. The resident was without power and flood waters were encroaching on her house.

In addition to these events, Conservation Officers spent most of the morning responding to numerous stranded/submerged vehicles across several counties. One such vehicle was an ambulance in Delaware County. The ambulance was occupied by multiple EMT’s that had to be evacuated on County Road 600 E, between 1200 and 1300 N.

Conservation Officers worked with multiple state, county, and local emergency personnel agencies in order to serve the Indiana residents during their time of need.

Indiana Conservation Officers want to remind the public to never attempt to drive through flood waters, especially when the waters are flowing
