Kokomo and Center Township Reach Fire Protection Agreement
The Kokomo Board of Works and Safety on Wednesday approved an agreement with Center Township of Howard County for fire protection services. Under the agreement Center Township will transfer the majority of their firefighting vehicles and equipment to the city in exchange for city fire protection for the unincorporated areas of the township. The agreement will remain in effect for five years.
“I am glad that we were able to reach an agreement with the Center Township Trustee, Jean Lushin, for the continued protection of residents of Center Township outside of the city limits,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. “This is a good deal for both city taxpayers and the taxpayers of Center Township.”
Under the previous agreement, the township paid the city an annual amount for fire protection services to the unincorporated areas. Additionally the city fire department used firefighting equipment owned by the township to service the unincorporated areas of Center Township.
