GARY, Ind. (AP) _ An apartment complex to house the homeless is being built in Gary.
Construction began last week on the two-story, 60-unit development called South Shore Commons. According to The times, the $12 million project will also provide supportive services. An official of the private agency providing case management says the building is intended to be permanent housing.

The 72,000-square-foot building includes 48 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom furnished apartments, a reception room and other amenities.
The site is near public transportation, shopping, schools, churches, banks, day care and small businesses that could employ residents.
South Shore Commons is scheduled for completion in December.
