SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Utility companies say crews are continuing work on restoring electricity to several thousand homes and businesses across northern Indiana after strong thunderstorms with winds gusting more than 60 mph swept through the area.
The National Weather Service has numerous reports of power lines and trees being knocked down during Monday night's storm. Most of the damage reports came from the Gary area through South Bend.
Major utility companies reported at least 120,000 outages in northern Indiana in the storm's wake. More than 50,000 outages remained at midday Tuesday, with the largest concentrations in northwestern Indiana's Lake County and in the South Bend area.
