Pence Says Health Care Political Battle Worthwhile Created by kblakeslee on 10/2/2013 11:49:42 AM
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Indiana Gov. Mike Pence says he believes the political battle that's led to a partial shutdown of the federal government is worthwhile.
Pence told reporters in South Bend on Tuesday that he supported efforts by his fellow Republicans to kill or delay the new health care law.
Pence says he also has been encouraging Congress to repealing the law's 2.3 percent sales tax on medical devices such as catheters, pacemakers and replacement joints. The governor says the medical-device industry employs about 20,000 people in Indiana.
Pence was a congressman in 2011 when he advocated a similar Republican plan to block a government spending bill in a push to block Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding and make other spending cuts. A deal avoided a shutdown then.
