WEST LEBANON, Ind. (AP) _ Seventeen fire departments from western Indiana and eastern Illinois have responded to a controlled burn of wooden pallets that has spread out of control.

West Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Goodrick says the fire began Tuesday as a controlled burn in the Warren County town about 75 miles northwest of Indianapolis but ``it got out of hand because it is so windy.'' The National Weather Service reports winds were gusting as high as 30 mph in Lafayette, about 30 miles away.

The Lafayette Journal & Courier reports the fire spread throughout a field of pallets, sending smoke and flames high into the area and making it difficult at times for crews to get close to the blaze.

Goodrick says no injuries have been reported.
