FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The city of Fort Wayne hopes to buy 88 vacant or blighted homes as part of the city’s effort to clean up neighborhoods and refurbish homes.

“We are in the home stretch of the Blight Elimination Program and are looking to purchase up to 88 properties that have a blighting influence on the homes that surround them,” Heather Presley-Cowen, director of the Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services and managing director of HANDS said.

The city of Fort Wayne was given $7.5 million last year to demolish 315 rundown properties and redevelop them.

The city is currently working on 227 properties that they’ve purchased.

Property owners who are interested in seeing if their house meets the criteria should call Housing and Neighborhood Services at 260-427-8585.
