FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): Allen County estimates it would lose $5 million in revenue if a proposed expansion of Fort Wayne’s city limits goes through.

The Journal Gazette reports that Mayor Tom Henry’s administration estimated that the annexation of 23 square miles of land north of the city would generate about $10 million in property tax revenue for the city, while Allen County would lose about $1.5 million in property taxes.

Chief Deputy Auditor Nick Jordan, however, told the County Council on Thursday the annexation could end up costing the county about $5.4 million because of other taxes the county collects.

The annexation would add about 22,000 residents to Fort Wayne, increasing its population by 9% to about 275,000 people.
