Highway Patrol Adds 38 New Troopers around Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP): The State Highway Patrol is adding more than three dozen new troopers in Ohio.

The 38 cadets in Friday's graduation ceremony in Columbus are members of the 156th class at the patrol's academy. Academy participants spend months taking courses on topics such as criminal and traffic law, crash investigation, firearms and self-defense.

Sgt. Vincent Shirey in the patrol's communications office says the addition of those cadets will give the patrol just under 1,600 uniformed personnel statewide. The newest troopers will be assigned to various posts around the state.
