AUBURN, Ind. (AP) _ A northeastern Indiana hospital has resumed normal operations after halting admissions while it sanitized its water system to rid it of the bacteria that causes Legionnaire's disease.

DeKalb Hospital CEO Fred Price says the Auburn facility shut down its water system for 48 hours over the weekend to sanitize it and halted all admissions, including emergency patients, for two days ending at 4 p.m. Sunday. Some patients remained at the hospital 20 miles north of Fort Wayne during that time.

Price tells The Star the hospital returned to normal operations Monday with special filters to protect its water supply.

He says a patient who died at the hospital in early October tested positive for Legionella bacteria. Tests delayed confirmation of the presence of the bacteria until late Thursday.
