FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A health expert with Indiana University says the current measles outbreak in areas of California, isn't likely to hit Indiana.

Professor Ross Silverman told our partners in news at 21Alive, Indiana has strict vaccination requirements in order to prevent outbreaks. 

In states like California, parents can opt out of required vaccinations due to medical and religious reasons. In Indiana, the total number of exemptions is only a small portion compared to California.

Silverman says a growing number of people are vulnerable, due to immune deficiencies. He says vaccinations are an important factor in preventing large outbreaks.
