FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A gas station employee was allegedly assaulted by an armed robber who wanted her purse Tuesday morning. 

The Fort Wayne Police Department says it happened at the Doc Rickers gas station at Coldwater and East Washington Center a little before 8 A.M. 

A female victim told officers that 44 year old Andrew Nichols took a purse she left in her vehicle and was hit in the head with a gun when she confronted Nichols. He then pointed his gun at witnesses and the victim before taking off on southbound Coldwater. 

Police were able to track Nichols down a short time later and arrest him. Nichols is charged with armed robbery and criminal recklessness.
