Convicted Meth Users Could Face Restrictions on Cold, Allergy Meds

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Two Indiana senators are backing legislation aimed at cracking down on meth abusers.

State Senators Mike Young (R)-Indianapolis and Carlin Yoder (R)-Middlebury announced Senate Bill 536. Young says the measure will create a meth-offender block list and require courts to report methamphetamine-related convictions to state police while allowing law-abiding consumers to buy pseudoephedrine-containing cold and allergy medicines without having to get prescriptions from doctors.

Young says the legislation would force anyone convicted of a drug crime to get doctor‘s prescriptions for seven years in order to obtain the medicine legally.

He adds Alabama and Oklahoma have seen 79% declines in meth lab incidents since approving their own meth-offender block lists.
