Council to Look at $150M City Budget Tuesday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): When city council meets Tuesday, one of the things they'll tackle is the new 2015 budget.

Mayor Tom Henry says it will take $150 million to operate the city next year. This year's budget is $142 million. The money takes into account as many as 18 new police officers, some improvements to neighborhood streets and parks. But, it also includes $5.5 million in one-time expenses.

Those expenses include a rare 27th pay period – that amounts to about $2.8 million additional and another 400 thousand for elections.

That's has members of his administration say labeling the spending plan – a flat budget.

Pat Roller the city's controller, said in a press conference last week, without those expenses – it amounts a 1.98 percent increase.

City Council isn't expected to do much with the budget when they meet, it could be a week or two before they get to vote.
