CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Drug charges against two Indianapolis men have been dismissed after the Connersville Police Department lost track of three grams of heroin that were evidence in the case.

The Connersville News-Examiner reports the two men were set free Monday after the heroin could not be located for the jury seated to hear the case in Fayette Circuit Court.

The two men had been arrested a year ago after allegedly selling the heroin to a confidential informant at a bar in Connersville, located about 50 miles east of Indianapolis.

Police Chief David Counceller says the heroin could not be located in an evidence locker or the police station after repeated searches. Counceller says the detectives involved are embarrassed, and he'll institute changes to evidence procedures at the police station.
