Elkhart Man Arrested for Leaving Child in Car after Police Chase

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): An Elkhart County man has been arrested after leading Elkhart Police on a pursuit, then abandoning the car with a 7-year-old, alone, inside.

Police tried stopping 36-year-old Kaharri Pratcher for reckless driving, Sunday morning, on County Road 17 south of County Road 14. Instead, Pratcher took off, leading police on a chase until he left the vehicle inside Arbor Lakes Apartments on Stillwater Drive. Inside the abandoned vehicle, Sheriff's Deputies found Pratcher's 7-year-old niece.

Police eventually caught up to Pratcher, who failed field sobriety tests and refused a chemical test. He was also found to not have a driver's license and to be a habitual traffic violator.
