Evansville Churches File Appeal Against Cross Ban

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WOWO): A group of churches that want to put up 6-foot-tall crosses on Evansville's public riverfront is appealing a federal judge's order that bans the display. The churches are led by West Side Christian Church and filed a notice of appeal yesterday with the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, but a decision isn't expected for several months. Evansville's Board of Public Works approved the cross display back in June, but two Evansville residents represented by the ACLU of Indiana challenged it on the grounds it would represent a government sponsorship of religion.
