Indiana Tops List of Contested House Races

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): Indiana voters are enjoying the most contested House races of any state in the nation. Indiana has hosted 180 contested races since 1978, to lead the nation. The tally is significant for the number of states with Congressional districts where the incumbent often runs unopposed. University of Minnesota researcher Eric Otsermeier found that Democrats and Republicans have split the bill evenly, winning 90 races each. The last Hoosier to run uncontested for re-election was Lee Hamilton in 1976.
