Man Alleges $80K Stolen From Muncie Bank Deposit Box

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana man is suing a Muncie bank, alleging that it failed to prevent the theft of $80,000 in cash from his safe deposit box.

Gregg Betras’ suit alleges Old National Bank was “careless and negligent” and allowed a bank employee to gain access to the box with him in violation of its own security procedures.

The Star Press reports Betras alleges the $80,000 was taken from safe deposit box between November 2010 and last September in the form of 800 $100 bills.

The Muncie man is seeking compensation for his losses.

Betras alleges he placed $825,000 inherited from his father in the box in early 2008 and later withdrew a combined $55,000, but found that another $80,000 was missing when he went to the bank last September.
