Mercer County police issue update on human remains discovery

MERCER COUNTY, Ohio (WOWO): Police in Mercer County, Ohio continue to investigate human remains that were found almost a year and a half ago near Lake St. Mary.

A mixture of human and non-human bones were found in a wooded area along U.S. Route 127 near Lake St. Mary’s. DNA from the remains has not given officers many clues on who this person was.

Officers say the body doesn’t match reports of other missing persons within a 250 mile radius, and they don’t have a complete skeleton, but believe the person, likely a man between 20 and 35 years of age, was dismembered.

Officers say there are cut marks on the bones and bones from the knees and elbows down are missing, along with the skull.

If you have any idea who this person could be, contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
