Woman Badly Wounded Outside Indianapolis Day Care

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Police say 17 children were inside an Indianapolis day care center when a woman who had just dropped off her two children was shot and critically wounded in the day-care's parking lot.

Police Lt. Chris Bailey says no children were injured in Tuesday morning's shooting at KinderCare on the city's northwest side.

Bailey says the woman was taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. She was found next to her car and told officers her ex-husband had shot her.

Police say they're searching for that 33-year-old man.

Bailey tells The Indianapolis Star a 911 caller reported hearing about 10 gunshots outside the day care.

Police haven't yet said how many of those shots struck the woman, whose name hasn't been released.
