WOODBURN, Ind. (AP): The wife of an area mayor will fill in for him while he’s gone for a month of National Guard training.

Woodburn Mayor Joe Kelsey will head to Mississippi during April for the training program. He took office in January after being elected to lead the 1,500-person city about 10 miles east of Fort Wayne.

Kelsey says he has the utmost confidence in his wife, Monica, overseeing the mayor’s office in his absence since they’ve run a shipping-and-moving business together.

City Councilman Dean Gerig also says he believes Monica Kelsey will do fine filling in for her husband and adds he’ll do what he can to help her.
