INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Federal prosecutors say two inmates have been convicted for their role in a drug trafficking ring that was directed from Indiana state prisons.
 
Forty-five-year-old Russell Yerden was sentenced to 27 years in federal prison, and 32-year-old Michael Foley, was sentenced to 25 years.
 
U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett says Yerden and Foley were two of 40 people indicted in the scheme in 2012. 
 
A federal indictment alleges that about 40 inmates ran a drug ring from behind bars in prisons in Pendleton and Westville. 
 
Authorities say Yerden and Foley used smuggled cellphones to help distribute methamphetamines using cellphones smuggled in by guards who also smuggled drugs into prison.
