Goodwill Workers Find Cremated Remains in Donation

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Police say Goodwill workers in Lafayette discovered someone had mistakenly included two boxes of cremated human remains in a donation of household items.

The workers found the small boxes on Friday while sorting through a large number of donated items.

Lafayette police Sgt. Grant Snyder tells the Journal & Courier that the boxes had names and dates on them. Snyder says the boxes were included accidentally in the donation and that they've been returned to the next of kin.

Store manager Paula Strong says a merchandise sorter found the white boxes inside velvet pouches and quickly realized what they were.

Strong says the cremated remains are the strangest thing she's seen at the store and is happy they've been returned to the family.
