LAGRANGE, Ind. (WOWO): Indiana State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the LaGrange County Jail.

Police found James P. Denaway, 41, of Bristol, unconscious and unresponsive in his cell at 11:40 a.m. on Monday, according to the Indiana State Police.

When police found Denaway they entered his cell and began performing life saving measures until LaGrange County EMS arrived.

Denaway was later pronounced dead at the scene. LaGrange County Coroner Randy Packer said the cause of death was asphyxiation, which means the body didn’t get enough oxygen.

The LaGrange County Sheriff Department asked that a detective from the Indiana State Police conduct an investigation.

After an early investigation, foul play isn’t suspected and has been ruled out.
