UPDATE: Man Dies in S. Indiana Cave He Explored for Years

CORYDON, Ind. (AP): A man who died while exploring a treacherous southern Indiana cave had been traversing through it for years.

Authorities say 49-year-old Timothy McLain of Brownsburg died Saturday evening when he was more than two miles into Blowing Hole Cave near Corydon.

Fellow caver Rand Heazlitt of Corydon says McLain was among a group of eight people and was laughing and having a good time when he suddenly collapsed. Heazlitt says that friends tried to resuscitate him as they worked for hours to carry his body to the surface.

Conservation Officer Jim Schreck says an autopsy was scheduled, but a medical issue is the suspected cause of death.

Blowing Hole Cave is part of the Binkley Cave system and is treacherous, with chest-deep waters and tight crevices.
