Woman Dies After Fleeing Suspect Crashes Into Truck

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indianapolis police say a fleeing shoplifting suspect ran a red light and caused a three-vehicle crash that killed a woman and left her grandson and a man hospitalized in critical condition.

Lt. Richard Riddle says offices were not chasing the suspect's SUV at the time of the crash because of heavy traffic that included school buses.

Riddle says the speeding SUV ran a red light near Fountain Square on the city's south Side and collided with the pickup truck with the woman, her grandson and the man. Their names haven't been released.

Riddle says the SUV also struck a car, but its female driver wasn't injured. He says the shoplifting suspect fled on foot but was captured by police and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. His name hasn't been released.
