FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — An Allen Superior Court judge has sentenced a 22-year-old Fort Wayne man to 55 years in prison for his role in a deadly 2025 shooting tied to stolen gold coins.

According to our partners in news at 21ALIVE, Chavez Gustin pleaded guilty last month to felony murder in the death of 67-year-old Roger Marvin Swedzinski as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. In exchange, the state dismissed charges of murder, burglary, and a sentencing enhancement related to the use of a firearm.

Judge David Zent imposed the agreed-upon 55-year sentence on Monday. As part of the plea deal, Gustin is required to provide all requested information to investigators and testify truthfully in any future court proceedings related to the case.

Zent also ordered Gustin to pay more than $15,000 in restitution to two individuals connected to the victim, including Swedzinski’s daughter.

Swedzinski was found shot to death inside his home in the 700 block of Hathaway Road. According to court records, family members told police that ten 2006, 1/10-ounce American Eagle gold coins Swedzinski had listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace were missing from the home.

Investigators later determined that Gustin sold the missing coins at a local pawn shop just two days after the victim’s death, based on surveillance footage and transaction records.

Gustin was charged shortly after the shooting, following the pawn shop discovery and further investigation by police.

When someone feels the need to kill another human being, for their belongings, they don’t deserve to be here…

For ten coins, Chavez was able to –
deprive five Siblings, their brother.
deprive 3 Daughters, their father.
deprive 6 GrandChildren, their GrandPa.

Evil is a strange thing; Insurmountable damage, for such little cost.
Or is it such a small cost?

I don’t belive Mr. Gustin realises the true price that he’ll have to pay.
