FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — An investigation is underway after an elderly woman died following an altercation at a Tim Hortons in Fort Wayne on Tuesday, May 13.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Tim Hortons located at 3975 Ice Way on reports of a battery involving an elderly adult female.

When officers arrived, police said the woman became unresponsive before they were able to obtain a statement from her. Medics were called to the scene and immediately began life-saving measures.

The woman was transported from the location by emergency medical personnel but was later pronounced dead.

The FWPD Investigative Support Division is leading the investigation in coordination with the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Detectives interviewed witnesses, reviewed surveillance footage from the business, and collected evidence from the scene with assistance from the FWPD Crime Scene Unit.

Police said the case will be forwarded to the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office for review once the investigation is completed.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office is continuing to investigate the official cause and manner of death.
