Thornton Requests to Withdraw from City Clerk Race

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): More potential changes to the ballot for the May primary.

A Democrat candidate for city clerk, Brian Thornton, has requested to withdraw from the race.

Beth DeLug, the Executive Director of the Allen County Board told WOWO News that Thornton had emailed her office requesting to withdraw, but the deadline passed February 9.

The board will still consider a request to remove his name from the ballot, as scheduled, Wednesday.

Allegations have surfaced that Thornton didn't have the support of the Allen County Democratic Party and he didn't vote as as democrat in the 2014 primary. The ballot challenge was filed by Wayne Township Assessor Bev Zuber for the party.

Earlier this week, election officials ruled Democrat John Roberson was not qualified to run for mayor of Fort Wayne for similar reasons.
