Wells and Wabash Counties Test Positive for West Nile Virus

WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): The Indiana Department of Health confirmed that West Nile Virus was detected in Wells and Wabash Counties.

According to our Partners in News at 21Alive, West Nile was found in a sample from the Bluffton wastewater treatment plant on June 14th. Ten days later, the state notified Wells County Health officials the sample tested positive for the virus.

Health officials are testing more pools of standing water for mosquito larva and spraying trees and shrubs throughout Wells County.

There have been no human cases of West Nile in Indiana, but health officials say it is important to wear bug repellant that contains DEET when you are outdoors.
