Fatal Indiana House Fire Called Crime Scene

CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – A southern Indiana house fire where two people were found dead is being investigated as a crime scene.

Clarksville Police Chief Mark Palmer says the bodies of the unidentified victims are part of the investigation. The News and Tribune and WDRB-TV report a deputy Clark County prosecutor went to the scene of the fire.

The State Fire Marshal will lead the investigation into the fire's cause.

Fire Chief Tom Upton says the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Upton says firefighters at first could not find the fire after smoke was reported blocks away. They had to circle the neighborhood before find flames shooting out of the home.

Clarksville is across the Ohio River from Louisville, Ky.
