INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma says lawmakers are taking their time deciding how they'll vote on a proposed amendment that would ban gay marriage.
 
The Indianapolis Republican said Wednesday that a vote by the House Judiciary Committee could happen next week. Members of that panel had planned a vote Monday, but delayed it following hours of emotional testimony.
 
Bosma said he has not counted the votes on the committee, but believes any decision would be a narrow one. 
 
The delayed vote is another indicator of how much the ground has shifted on the issue since 2011, when the amendment passed the Legislature with strong bipartisan support.
 
Republican Gov. Mike Pence asked lawmakers to vote on the issue this year during his State of the State address.
