TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Construction of a 16-mile mountain bike trail network is being considered for a county park in western Indiana.
The bike trails are being proposed for the current wilderness area of Vigo County's Fowler Park south of Terre Haute.
County Park Superintendent Kara Kish says her department can pay the estimated $44,000 for design work, but bike trail supporters will need to raise the projected $845,000 needed for construction costs.
The Tribune-Star reports the plan is to have trails of varying skill levels and a youth riding area.
Trail designer Nat Lopes says the bike park could attract 60,000 visitors a year, including many for special mountain bike events and races.
