SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ A power company president says power should be restored to downtown South Bend by noon Sunday after an underground electrical fire left about 800 homes and businesses without power Friday as thousands of people are in town for the University of Notre Dame's commencement ceremonies.

I&M President Paul Chodak apologized for the inconvenience during a Friday afternoon news conference, saying he understands it is a particularly difficuly weekend for it to occur. Deputy Mayor Mark Neal says most of downtown businesses that are normally open at night were expected to be open Friday night. He also says temporary streetlights were put up on some streets and additional police patrols would be out.
