Muncie Packaging Company to Lay off 261 Workers

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – A packaging company in Muncie has informed the state it plans to lay off 261 workers over the next few months.

DIY Group President Phil Durham told The Star Press the company is laying off roughly half its workforce.

DIY Group packages products and displays for national manufacturers and retailers. The notice sent to the state cited the loss of a contract with Jarden Home Brands for the layoffs. In July, Jarden announced it was moving its corporate headquarters from Daleville to the Indianapolis area, citing growth that had outstripped its Daleville space. That move takes 100 employees out of Daleville, although Jarden still has 120 workers at a Muncie plant.
