INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A legislative committee is recommending that Indiana's riverboat casinos be allowed to move to on-land sites and that live table games be permitted at the state's horse track casinos.

The public policy study committee voted unanimously Thursday to support those changes, which would need to win approval from the full General Assembly.

Panel chairman Rep. Tom Dermody of LaPorte says Indiana's 13 casinos are struggling against increased competition from other states and legislators should help them like any other industry to become more competitive.

Casino leaders have sought such changes for several years, but have been largely opposed by Republican Gov. Mike Pence and many GOP legislative leaders who worry about an expansion of gambling.
