Sawed-Off Shotguns Legal in Indiana on July 1st

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Sawed-off shotguns will become legal in the state of Indiana in a couple weeks.

The General Assembly approved a bill earlier this year to make it legal to manufacture, sell, or own a short-barreled shotgun in Indiana.

The bill brings state law in line with federal regulations, which puts the shotguns back into a category of firearms that require background checks and permits from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

But, there is a 10 year sentence enhancement for possessing a sawed-off shotgun while committing certain offenses.

The new law goes into effect on July 1st.
