INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A top official of Indiana’s largest teachers union is resigning to take a similar post in Alabama.

The Indiana State Teachers Association said Monday that Executive Director Brenda Pike will end her six-year stint with the organization to take on the same title at the Alabama Education Association.

ISTA says the union has seen financial gains and a membership increase to more than 40,000 people under Pike’s leadership.

Pike has worked for teachers associations since the mid-1990s in Tennessee and Texas and now is returning to her home state of Alabama.

Pike is set to begin her new role on May 16. It’s unclear who will replace her as executive director at ISTA.
