INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The Indiana Department of Natural resources says 12 southern counties will receive shares of nearly $400,000 in timber sale revenue to support public safety efforts of rural and volunteer fire departments.

Brown County is getting the largest amount, nearly $87,000, and neighboring Monroe County is receiving $68,000. The other counties and the amounts they’re receiving are Crawford, $50,000; Harrison, $46,000; Washington, nearly $33,000; Clark, $22,000; Morgan $21,295.41; Owen, $18,000; Martin, $16,000; Dubois and Jackson, $15,660 each; and Perry, nearly $3,000.

The DNR says its Division of Forestry allocates 15 percent of timber sale revenue from state forests to counties in which harvests occur. Each county shares the funds it receives with rural and volunteer fire departments that maintain a cooperative agreement with the DNR’s Fire Control Headquarters.
